CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTORS ARE REQUIRED BY FLORIDA STATUTE 489 TO:
Licensed Registered and Certified Contractors are required to take 14 hours of continuing education during each biennium. The biennium ending on August 31, 2011 for Registered Contractors and on August 31, 2012 for Certified Contractors requires each licensee to attend a 4-hour Core Course on the Unified Building Code. The course must be taken through a department approved course provider.
Of the required 14 CEU hours, contractors must take 1-hour of each of the following: workers compensation, workplacesafety, business practice, an advance module and the remaing hours may be general courses.
Up to four hours may be earned by attending a CILB meeting during the disciplinary hearings. You must notify the board at least seven days prior to the meeting and check in with the board clerk prior to the disciplinary proceedings.
DBPR encourages contractors to maintain proof of completion of the courses for three years. Keeping in mind that falsifying courses or failing to provide proof of completion may result in penalties up to and including revocation of the contractor's certificate or registration (from the Department of Business and Professional Regulations/Construction Industry Licensing Board's spring 2003 newsletter).
